I always hated "respect your elders." It's bull. I'll only respect those who respect me and I'll disrespect those who disrespect me. Age doesn't cut it.

my grandmother brought this up when I was complaining about my uncle the other day. he has no respect for me and is constantly stealing my pepsis, asking my for money/stuff, and talking shit about me, but I can't say anything bad about him because "I must respect my elders."

I used to believe you should always respect your elders too.

Until I found some very disrespectful, self-important elders whose only claim to deserving respect was basically:

"I'm older than you, so NYEH!"

I had some adult get all on my case and call me immature...and I was talking with friends.. :I then I was told that I need to respect adults.

My school principle gives a respect speech about once per week. Seriously. It normally goes like this "We respect you, so respect us" :iconyeahrightplz:

Exactly.
I feel this falls in line with taking younger people less seriously.
I've seen some genius teenagers get crapped on because "they're too young to get it" when they could easily outsmart a good number of adults.
